This month we honor 28 women business owners across Carmel and Indianapolis who have gone above and beyond to make their mark.
October is National Women’s Small Business Month, a time to recognize the contributions of women-owned companies to the economy and their communities. The right of women to enter into business ownership on equal footing with their male counterparts wasn’t always a given. Prior to the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1988, some states and lenders required that women have a male relative co-sign a business loan. That landmark legislation helped remove barriers to financing and expanded support for women entrepreneurs. This year’s class is proof that staying small and staying close to home are choices, not limitations. The lineup features 28 women across Carmel and Indianapolis, running everything from med spas to law firms to a chocolate shop that's been part of the neighborhood for years. Some lean on new technology to run tighter operations. Others will tell you the thing customers actually want is a person on the other side of the counter who remembers their name. Read through their stories, then go see for yourself what they've built.
