This October, Houseworks (4905 82nd Street, Indianapolis) celebrates 35 years of providing the best selection of goods and highest quality of customer service in modern furnishings. In reflecting on the past decades, Ed Cheikh, owner of Houseworks, Inc., says that for all the success the company has seen, the team has weathered a number of challenges over the years, from recessions to, yes, pandemics. “The six weeks we were closed this spring were very stressful,” Ed admits. “But as we hunkered down, and finally re-emerged, I realized more than ever how grateful I am for both our customers and for the small, dedicated team I work with here. Everyone was so eager to come back.” And as for the customers, come back they have! The past few months have seen one of the busiest stretches Ed reports having in years. “People are at home, and they’re envisioning new ways to fix up their living spaces.”
With the clean, adaptable lines and modern aesthetics of Houseworks’ selections, it’s no wonder customers keep coming back. While Ed says that people nowadays are “more hip” to modern furniture, perhaps, than when Houseworks first opened in October 1985, he says that the furniture they offer can go with any context. “Over the years, we’ve let the market inform us, but we also push the market in a progressive way,” he says. “Our furnishings are classics because they can work in a space forever.” |
