An Impressive Restoration
Last month saw the opening of RH Indianapolis, The Gallery at the DeHaan Estate, representing one of the largest, most inspiring and immersive physical expressions of the brand to date.
Integrating the luxury home furnishing collections of RH (formerly known as Restoration Hardware) with fine art and antiques from around the globe, the newest RH gallery is an experience beyond compare. Much more than a showroom or store, this immersive hospitality experience, as RH calls it, is an elegant fusion of the past with the present and the relaxed with the refined, all on the grounds of Linden House, the 151-acre estate previously owned by renowned philanthropist Christel DeHaan.
“The DeHaan Estate is one of the most magical properties in North America, and we are honored to open its gates to the public for the first time,” says RH Chairman & CEO Gary Friedman. “From the immaculately groomed grounds and tree-lined driveway, to the massive stone terrace and boat dock overlooking the lake and forest, and the perfectly proportioned rooms filled with natural light from the abundance of windows, RH Indianapolis is a place to come and dream, to be inspired by the architecture. Get lost in the views, enjoy a meal in the grand ballroom or sip a glass of wine while strolling through the gardens.”
Inside the 60-room, 42,000 square-foot Palladian-style villa overlooking a private lake, guests can explore all RH has to offer, which is much more than furniture, including a Wine Bar and The Dining Room restaurant. With an elaborate blown glass chandelier and soaring windows to capture gorgeous views of the water, gardens and surrounding park-like landscape, this stunning setting for a meal features a classic menu, offering a curated selection of lunch and dinner items, all elegantly prepared with fresh, local ingredients, along with limited production wines from famed regions and small vintners around the world.

Throughout the east and west wings, the RH collections are artfully displayed in interactive lifestyle installations by acclaimed designers, along with design libraries and private presentation spaces. Guests can take the breathtaking elliptical floating staircase to the second level to view the curated bedroom suites or visit the Lakeside Terrace to enjoy intimate outdoor lounge spaces featuring the RH outdoor collections.
Chad Bruick and his team at OEG have been a part of the landscaping efforts here for many years, collaborating with Christel DeHaan to oversee projects, including the front fountains and sculpture park across the lake. Bruick says this property was her passion, and he is grateful for the opportunity to help refine her vision and bring it to life. OEG has continued to assist RH throughout the transition from a private residence to a public space, which Bruick says has been a massive yet rewarding project. “So many people don't have the opportunity to experience spaces and properties of this caliber…so it’s really a unique opportunity,” says Bruick, excited that the general public now has access to such a thoughtfully designed estate.
