New Year, New You By Susan Salaz
Time marches on, and as 2021 comes to a close, consider setting some modern skincare goals for the coming year to turn back the clock on your complexion.
When it comes to skincare, Cristina Wisemen, aesthetic nurse practitioner, chief injector and co-owner of The Beauty Lounge Salon and MedSpa in Carmel, believes winter is an ideal time to consider revitalization. With more than 22 years of nursing experience in emergency medicine, plastic surgery and aesthetics, Crissy is an industry expert in non-surgical aesthetic procedures and customized skin care. The state-of-the-art MedSpa at The Beauty Lounge offers everything from clinical facials to injectables, laser resurfacing and skin tightening treatments, but according to Crissy, it all starts with a regular routine. “Being consistent will change your skin for the better,” says Crissy. Investing in medical-grade skincare products (The Beauty Lounge carries several lines) is recommended because they have the science and literature to back up results. “You can spend all the money in the world on treatments, but you will not maintain results with products purchased from the drug store,” she insists—and she recommends everyone incorporate a retinoid into their nightly regimen at the very least.
When it comes to treatments, Crissy believes the innovative CoolPeel CO2 resurfacing technique is a great way to kick off the New Year. Not only does it remove damaged skin, revealing younger, healthier skin and restoring your youthful glow, but it requires very little, if any, downtime. For rejuvenation, Crissy recommends PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or PRFM (platelet-rich fibrin matrix) therapies, which use your own cells to heal the skin, aiding in collagen production and tightening the dermis as a result. “This treatment increases the integrity of the skin,” says Crissy, adding that it minimizes crepiness and scar tissue. Crissy says her favorite treatment right now pairs PRFM with radio frequency microneedling, which increases effectiveness, but PRP and PRFM can achieve noticeable results when injected individually or with filler. |
Wondering where to start with your skincare? Crissy emphasizes the importance of a regular routine. "Being consistent will change your skin for the better," she says.
Skincare doesn’t stop at the face, and The Beauty Lounge offers several treatments that can knock years off your body’s look. For loose skin, Hyperdilute Radiesse dermal filler is a game changer, encouraging the body to create its own elastin and collagen. Crissy often combines this treatment with PDO thread placement and radio frequency microneedling for the neck, but it can also be used in the buttocks, knees, elbows and hands. For cellulite, Qwo is the way to go. This revolutionary treatment is the first and only FDA-approved injectable that targets cellulite. Crissy is extremely excited about being able to offer Qwo to her clients, but says not to wait until January to schedule this treatment. “We are running a special on Qwo for the rest of 2021, and we are witnessing excellent results.”
